At our Celebrating Black Brilliance gathering, Bridge Alliance Canada received an official proclamation from the City of Barrie recognising the contribution of Black residents to the life of the city.
A proclamation is a piece of paper. What matters is what it signals: that this community is part of how Barrie understands itself, not an add-on to it.
We are grateful to the City, to everyone who spoke, cooked, performed, set up chairs and stayed to clear them away, and to the residents who simply turned up.
